
The electric-electronic industry produces audio, video, computing, telecommunications, commercial and office equipment, electromedical and electronic components. The electric-electronic industry is the main productive activity exported from the country, which meant 20 percent of total exports in 2007. Mexico has 690 plants, which generated more than 315 thousand jobs in that year. The highest percentage corresponds to televisions, computer equipment and cell phones manufacture.
The electronics industry in Mexico is composed mainly by assemblers of final products, which require imported inputs. Between 2000 and 2007, foreign investment in this industry amounted to 3 524 billion dollars, witch were directed primarily to the production of high-tech TVs, set-top boxes and mobile phones. Mexico's exports in 2008 were 90 thousand 865 million dollars.
